Senior Software Engineer | Core Tech | Python/Rust
BlockTechAbout the Role
BlockTech is a fast-paced algorithmic trading firm facilitating global cryptocurrency derivatives and spot trading while expanding into new markets. As the firm grows rapidly, this Senior Software Engineer will take technical ownership of Core systems and help shape how they evolve through the scale-up phase.
- Own the books: maintain and evolve position, trade, and PnL systems so they remain accurate across every venue.
- Architect the platform that supports trading, designing services that handle real-time exchange flow with the throughput and reliability quoting and hedging depend on.
- Own the data flows, operating and hardening the public and private pipelines bringing market prices, account state, and trade events into our systems in real time.
- Lead venue integrations end-to-end across protocol, account model, settlement, reconciliation, and surveillance.
- Model the instrument universe - lifecycle, expiry, margin, RFQs, fast-path quoting - where correctness and latency both matter.
- Build self-healing systems that detect position discrepancies and correct them automatically, and own gamma and delta hedging infrastructure.
- Deliver reporting for internal stakeholders and regulators (PnL breakdowns, trade surveillance, treasury accounting, compliance).
- Raise the bar by mentoring junior engineers, leading by example in code and design reviews, and influencing technical direction.
Requirements
- 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience, including a track record of designing and operating production systems where correctness and reliability are non-negotiable
- Strong proficiency across our stack. You are comfortable moving between a Rust service, a Python data pipeline, and a complex production issue, and choosing the right tool for each
- Demonstrated experience building low-latency, high-throughput, or distributed systems; experience in trading, fintech, or another correctness-critical domain is a strong plus
- Experience with Grafana & PostgreSQL
- A critical mind that follows things until completion, and the judgment to know what "done" means
- The ability to confidently design and own completely new components from first principles
- A high level of responsibility and ownership, and the instinct to lift the people around you
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
