Engineering Manager
Flow TradersAbout the Role
Flow Traders is hiring an Engineering Manager in Amsterdam to strengthen leadership across its Product Development department. As the firm scales, the quality of engineering management has become critical to team growth, talent retention, and delivery.
Engineering Managers are accountable for the planning and people side of the organisation — project deliveries, growth, performance, culture and hiring — while partnering with technical leads who own architecture, technical direction, and hands-on execution. You will be measured on the engineers you develop and the outcomes your team delivers, spending the large majority of your time leading people and managing delivery.
Key responsibilities include owning the roadmap and work sequencing, developing engineers through career planning and performance management, building and planning the team through hiring and resource allocation, cultivating a healthy team culture, leading with regular feedback and one-on-ones, translating technical and business requirements into delivery plans, acting as liaison between Engineering, Trading, and Quant teams, driving delivery predictability, and ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
Requirements
- Strong project management skills: experience building roadmaps, sequencing work, managing dependencies and risk, and driving delivery predictability in a fast-moving environment
- A technical background sufficient to earn the respect of the engineers you manage and to engage credibly in technical discussions
- Demonstrated experience leading, growing, and managing the performance of software engineers
- A track record of delivering software through a team, balancing scope, quality, and timelines
- Strong people-leadership skills: coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, and building an environment in which engineers thrive
- Sound judgment in hiring and developing talent
- Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including experience managing cross-functional stakeholders (e.g. Trading, Quant)
- Based in Amsterdam, or willing to relocate
