About the Role

Join Jane Street's new Formal Methods team as a software engineer or researcher working on establishing formal methods as a core tool for building software, particularly in the context of agentic programming. You'll develop practical tools that integrate cutting-edge formal methods research into the firm's infrastructure and leverage existing technology while pursuing novel approaches.

  • Establish and build a new Formal Methods team at Jane Street
  • Turn cutting-edge research ideas into practical tools and get them adopted across the firm and beyond
  • Work with interactive proof assistants, automated theorem provers, static analysis, refinement types, program logics, property-based testing, and related formal methods areas
  • Collaborate closely with a community of eager programmers who have strong intellectual toolkit to adopt new tools

Requirements

  • Deep experience with formal methods, with backgrounds broadly in interactive proof assistants, automated theorem provers, static analysis, refinement types, program logics, property-based testing, and related areas
  • Top-notch software engineering skills, able to turn cutting-edge research ideas into practical tools and get these tools in use across the firm and beyond
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively in small, close-knit teams
