About the Role

Jane Street's IT Security team is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and technologically curious individual with a Windows security focus. The team is dedicated to securing the firm's Windows and macOS computing platforms, and you will contribute through a combination of technical hands-on work, cross-team collaboration and creative problem-solving.

  • Deploy, document and support our security controls at scale
  • Act as a key contributor to our vulnerability management programme, ensuring vulnerabilities are rigorously detected and mitigated
  • Provide security guidance and support to the broader IT department as well as our IT Operations Team as security incidents arise
  • Develop both technical and non-technical solutions in collaboration with engineering teams that address security concerns
  • Contribute to the development of our team's operational playbooks, procedures, guidelines and technical security standards

This role is anything but siloed; we'll rely on you to be a key liaison between the IT Security team and other internal technology groups to distill and communicate pertinent information.

Responsibilities

  • Deploying, documenting and supporting our security controls at scale
  • Acting as a key contributor to our vulnerability management programme, ensuring vulnerabilities are rigorously detected and mitigated
  • Providing security guidance and support to the broader IT department as well as our IT Operations Team as security incidents arise
  • Developing both technical and non-technical solutions in collaboration with engineering teams that address security concerns
  • Contributing to the development of our team's operational playbooks, procedures, guidelines and technical security standards
  • Acting as a key liaison between the IT Security team and other internal technology groups to distill and communicate pertinent information

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a security or operations engineer, with a technical background rooted in Windows
  • Experienced with maintaining, supporting and administering Windows platforms at scale, including Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Solidly understand common attack scenarios targeting the Windows platform, as well as the protection technologies designed to mitigate them
  • Strong troubleshooter, comfortable triaging security incidents and production issues; familiar with trend and log analysis, with hands-on experience using system monitoring and alerting tools to identify production disruptions
  • Have hands-on experience deploying and implementing endpoint security controls at scale (anti-malware, EDR, application control, log aggregation, host-based firewalls, disk encryption, etc.)
  • Comfortable with PowerShell, including experience scripting or building tooling to automate security tasks
  • Knowledge of macOS and mobile device security fundamentals is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator; able to explain processes clearly to colleagues across the firm
  • Comfortable working in an environment with shifting priorities
  • Collaborative and approachable; eager to be a team player
  • Fluent in English

  • Someone who fully enjoys working with and being around people, takes pleasure in triaging complex problems and is able to delegate and escalate tasks effectively
  • Hands-on experience with security incident response is preferred
  • Someone who's worked in a code-driven environment is preferred
