Jane Street
🇺🇸New YorkJuniorFull-timePosted July 22, 2026

About the Role

Linux Engineers maintain critical infrastructure across Jane Street's on-premises and cloud platforms, working across compute, storage, networking, and the full stack from hardware to workload orchestration. The role involves building in-house tools and systems, acting as a Linux expert, automating operational work, diagnosing production issues in real time, and executing planned platform changes like upgrades and migrations. This position treats Linux itself as the problem space, emphasizing production infrastructure care and consulting-focused work with relentless automation rather than manual operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable about operating system fundamentals, computer architecture, and systems programming concepts like sockets, virtual memory, and the process life cycle
  • Able to understand network protocols at a basic level
  • Comfortable at the command line of a Linux machine (whether from coursework, side projects, or time spent administering a campus computer lab) and fluent in basic introspection and troubleshooting: system health, individual processes, logs
  • Someone who solves problems by writing code (in any language) and cares about robust software engineering
  • Intellectually curious, collaborative, humble, and eager to learn (including from mistakes)
  • A strong communicator
