Software Engineer - Agentic SDLC

Optiver

About the Role

At Optiver, the velocity of our software development is a critical part of our competitive advantage. The Developer Experience team is a strategic engineering function with a clear mandate: improve the software development lifecycle across the company in ways that accelerate delivery and reduce time to market.

Agents are now capable of doing work end-to-end, not just assisting with it β€” at a volume and cadence our current software development lifecycle was never designed to absorb. This shifts the problem from how to make a developer faster to how to make an agent capable of running the entire lifecycle on its own, both safely and efficiently. It is more of a platform problem than a model problem: an agent is only as autonomous as the least autonomous step around it.

We're looking for engineers who want to help build the Agentic SDLC at Optiver. As part of the Developer Experience team, you'll lead the development of the platforms, workflows, and guardrails that make autonomous development not only possible but also secure, measurable, and effective at scale.

  • Build just-in-time, sandboxed development environments for agents, provisioned per task and torn down after.
  • Make automated code review trustworthy, weighing the whole case for a change rather than just the diff.
  • Develop testing frameworks that build confidence in agentic output, running complex multi-service tests in realistic environments.
  • Establish a chain of custody for every change, tracing where it came from and which agents acted on it.
  • Build evaluation into the platform so it can be tuned on evidence rather than intuition.
  • Design hermetic, incremental build systems that hold up under an order of magnitude more change.
  • Build the context layer agents navigate by, connecting source, documentation, build, deployment and operational signals.
  • Work directly with engineering teams to find where agents stall and turn that into platform capability.

Responsibilities

  • Build just-in-time development environments for agents: sandboxed compute provisioned per task rather than assigned to a person, sized and configured for the work in front of it, ready in seconds and torn down after
  • Make automated code review trustworthy, weighing the whole case for a change β€” spec, tests, implementation decisions β€” not just the diff, and deciding whether it is safe to ship, whether a human needs to be involved, and what to put in front of them
  • Develop testing frameworks that build confidence in agentic output: complex, multi-service tests running in realistic environments against real dependencies
  • Establish a chain of custody for every change, with an end-to-end trace of where a change came from, what agents acted on it under which credentials, and how it was built
  • Build evaluation into the platform so that model upgrades, context changes and harness tweaks can be tuned on evidence rather than intuition
  • Design build systems that hold up under an order of magnitude more change β€” hermetic, incremental builds backed by remote execution and distributed caching
  • Build the context layer agents navigate by, connecting source, documentation, build and deployment systems and operational signals
  • Work directly with engineering teams to understand how they build, find where agents stall in their development lifecycle, turn that into platform capability, and guide teams to work more effectively with agents

Requirements

  • You have built developer platforms or tooling used daily by a large engineering organisation, with ownership of areas such as build and test infrastructure, development environment provisioning, release and deployment systems, and source control and code review
  • You have shipped agentic systems that do real work inside the software development lifecycle, and are opinionated about what makes them effective and reliable: including but not limited to context design, tool integration, workflow orchestration, and evaluation
  • You treat the platform as a product; you know how to instrument the platform to track both adoption and friction, and you put yourself in front of users regularly to see how things actually work
  • You build with security as a primary constraint; you can reason about compute isolation, identity and access controls, network segregation, and can exercise strong judgement about the trade-off between risk and speed
  • You are excited to work on problems nobody has solved yet; you care about the developer experience, how developers and agents can work together, and you're passionate about building the future of how software gets made
